The rich historical and cultural past of Pakistan will take you through some of the most interesting historical cities of the world, enabling you to see and understand the diversity of their rich cultural and archeological heritage. Tracking history itself, we scrutinize the ruins of the excavated city of Taxila, one of the most important Buddhist sites in Indo-Pak subcontinent dating back from 6th century BC to 7th century Ad. Then we travel onwards to the frontier town of Peshawar, which was founded 2000 years ago at the mouth of the ancient Khyber pass, explore its ancient bazaars, visit the impressive archaeological Museums, old walled cities and Buddhist Monasteries.

Buddhists Archaeological Tour

Moving north to the beautiful Swat valley, an important seat of Buddhism and a cross road of invaders and Buddhist pilgrims we travel through the Ancient Silk Road to China and Central Asia. In 4th and 6th century Ad famous Chinese historians and Buddhist pilgrims Huan Tsang and Fa-Hian had visited Buddhist holy Shrines of Swat and Taxila and found these cities in ruins as the white Huns had cause absolute havoc and destroyed most parts of these cities. Alexander the Great Invaded the Gandhara region in 327 BC. He then marched forward to Taxila, crossed the salt range in south of Islamabad, defeated the King Porus across the Jehlum River, followed the Indus river and finally headed west wards marching across the Makran Desert in Baluchistan. In 321 BC Chandar Gupta founded the Mouryan empire. Emperor Ashoka promoted Buddhism and Buddhist missionaries under his royal patronage had traveled all over the Gandhara region to preach the noble Teaching of the Lord Buddha.

DAY 01 – ARRIVE IN LAHORE

DAY 03 – LAHORE – ISLAMABAD

DAY 04 – ISLAMABAD – SWAT

Drive to Swat valley via Taxila 270 kms 5/6 hours drive Taxila is a renounced seat of learning for thousands of years. Alexander visited hear in 328 B.C. Greeks ruled this area for about a century and left behind rich legacy in the form of Hellenistic influence on the Buddhist art of statue making. You will visit archaeological sites and museum of Taxila Continue on to Saidu Sharif Swat valley Arrive and transfer to hotel

DAY 05 – SWAT

Swat valley was called Udhyana – The Garden, by the earlier Buddhists and was a centre of learning for Mahayana Buddhists, for centuries. Saidu Sharif is a small town in Swat valley surrounded by high mountains from all the sides. Ice cold water of Swat River is used to irrigate orchards producing most delicious fruits one can imagine. You will visit upper Swat valley for its scenery and bazaars known for the local handi-crafts

DAY 06 – SWAT – PESHAWAR

Drive to Peshawar 180 kms 3 hours drive Afternoon walking tour of Peshawar city. Peshawar is the last of the oriental town, on the caravan route, preserved in its original color. One can see people from so many different ethnic groups doing barter trade on the streets of Peshawar. It is also known for its tribal cuisine including roasted lamb.

DAY 07 – PESHAWAR – KHYBER PASS – PESHAWAR – ISLAMABAD

Visit Khyber Pass, the gate way to India and the passage used by the migratory tribes, explorers, traders, pilgrims and invaders for thousands of years of known history. Also visit Pakistan – Afghanistan border. Afternoon drive to Islamabad 170 kms 3 hours drive

DAY 08 – ISLAMABAD – LAHORE – FLY OUT

Visit hill station of Murree 60 kms from Islamabad. Pine forested hills are cool in summer and receive many feet of snow in winter. Afternoon drive to Lahore After dinner transfer to airport
